Moeen Ali was among the first players to join the ILT20. Now, he is appointed captain of Sharjah warriors in the league. Additionally, Paul Farbrace will be the franchise’s head coach in the tournament’s inaugural edition.
The England all-rounder has been very open about this news. He feels honored to lead a franchise like Sharjah Warriors. The franchise posted this news on Twitter with the tagline, “Say Hello to our fearless leader.”
Sharjah Warriors Appoint England Batsman Moeen Ali as Captain
“It is a great honour and would be a pleasure to lead Sharjah Warriors. In this format, anybody can beat anybody, and it is important to keep evolving. With the team at our disposal, we can play aggressive, yet sensible cricket and hopefully be in the mix towards the business end of the ILT20. Playing at world-class facilities and especially the iconic Sharjah Stadium is a very exciting prospect, and we are all looking forward to it.” Moeen spoke to the media.
Moeen Ali has been the captain of England as a replacement for Jos Buttler. He is also leading the Morrisville Samp Army, currently in the Abu Dhabi T10 league 2022. So, you can expect an experienced performance from Moeen.
Along with this news, Paul Farbrace has also come into the limelight as the head coach of Sharjah Warriors. If you do not know much about him, he has served as the head coach of Sri Lanka. Under his coaching, the Sri Lankan team won the Asia Cup 2014 and T20 World Cup 2014. Farbrace has also worked as an assistant coach for England’s cricket team.
Paul Farbrace also felt ‘rewarded’ after being appointed in this position. He spoke,
“The T20 format has been challenging and yet most rewarding. It is nice to see talent from around the world getting more opportunities. I am aware of how cricket is followed here as an extension of the subcontinent. I hope we can work some magic here to inspire future generations and even generate local interest.”
That’s not all. Batting and bowling coaches have also been appointed for Sharjah Warriors. Matthew Maynard and G Jayakumar will be filling these positions, respectively.
Conclusion
All of these new appointments surfaced on December 1, 2022. This month will also see the shortlisting and selections of UAE-based players. Once all that is settled, you will see the debut of the ILT20 on January 13, 2023.
