The List A T20 Status Not Granted To DP World ILT20 2023

The much-awaited DP World ILT20 is set to start on January 13th, 2023. The tournament features some of the most popular cricketers with excellent statistics. However, their efforts will not be enough to break the T20 world records. As confirmed by ICC, ILT20 cannot hold the status of List A T20.

The performances in the ILT20 will be listed under a player’s miscellaneous statistician’s database. You will also see the participants’ achievements under the “other T20” columns on their records. In short, this tournament will not affect their overall career the same way as another T20 league would.

An ICC spokesperson stated about ILT20 performances

“The UAE ILT20 has been sanctioned by the ICC, but List A T20 status will not be granted to this event as it does not meet the criteria in the regulations.”

According to a report by The Cricketer,

“T20 competitions hosted by non-Full Members cannot be attributed List A T20 status, and the global governing body recently confirmed to statisticians that no special exemption will be made for the big-money tournament in the UAE, which is set to have its inaugural run later this month.”

It can be a bummer to hear this news as the DP World ILT20 features names like Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Joe Root, Alex Halex, Moeen Ali, and Wanindu Hasaranga. But it is not the first thing ICC has not granted a T20 league the ‘full’ status.

The same hitch was seen in the Global T20 Canada tournament, which also had some popular crickets like Chris Gayle and Steve Smith. Similarly, the women’s competition, The Fairbreak International, was also not given the status by ICC.

While the UAE International League T20 (ILT20) has not been granted the formal List A T20 status by ICC, that does not seem to affect the fans’ anticipation. People are still excited to see their favorite cricketers give their best performances in the ILT20, even if they won’t break any record.
